Sedation

Gentle Implant, Cosmetic & Restorative Dentistry

Many people avoid dental treatment due to fear or anxiety. They may also associate dental procedures with pain and discomfort. At Krause Dental, we work to eliminate these issues by providing methods of sedation that are designed to improve patient comfort and help people remain calm and relaxed while treatment is conducted. Anyone who suffers from a fear or phobia of dental treatment can greatly benefit from sedation to help them get through the experience.

Whether you are receiving a general dental treatment, a cosmetic procedure or oral surgery, sedation will help ensure that your experience is stress-free and comfortable. Our methods of sedation will allow you to feel at ease and relaxed so that our experts can focus on providing you with the best possible treatment. The sedation methods we offer are extremely safe, and we always carefully monitor the process so that no unwanted side effects are experienced.

Krause Dental offers oral sedation, local anesthesia and laughing gas for patients.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is provided in the form of a pill that is taken shortly before a dental procedure. This medicine will help a patient remain calm while treatment is provided, and it will make them much less susceptible to any pain that they may be experiencing. While the patient may still be somewhat aware their surroundings, they will typically feel a powerful sense of relaxation, and it is possible for them to be placed into a calm, dream-like state and have a difficult time recognizing that dental treatment is being performed. It might take a few hours for the patient to fully return to normal after the medicine wears off. Afterwards, the patient should have little memory of the actual procedure and no negative recollection of the experience.

Local Anesthetic

A local anesthetic is applied directly to the site of a procedure before treatment as a way of numbing the area. A local anesthetic is strictly designed to reduce physical pain, and it will have no effect whatsoever on the patient’s current mental state. Although this means that the local anesthetic will do nothing to directly reduce a patient’s anxiety, just knowing that they are less likely to experience pain can go a long way towards helping a patient feel more comfortable about receiving dental treatment.

Laughing Gas

Laughing gas is an inhaled substance that can help a patient feel calm and comfortable while they receive treatment. It is highly effective in reducing anxiety, and it can greatly minimize any immediate fears about undergoing a dental procedure. When receiving laughing gas, the patient will wear a special mask over their nose and inhale the substance by breathing through their nose. Once the patient is under the effects of laughing gas, they may feel somewhat light-headed and experience a sense of giddiness or euphoria. They should have absolutely no worry or anxiety about the treatment they are going through, and they will still be fully aware of their surroundings. Once the mask is removed and normal air is breathed in, they should quickly return to normal.
